NC State football vs ECU in Military Bowl: Score prediction, scouting report

N.C. State football and East Carolina will meet in a rivalry matchup at the Military Bowl before playing again in the 2025 season opener.

The Wolfpack (6-6) reached bowl eligibility for the fifth straight season under head coach Dave Doeren and the Pirates (7-5) rallied under interim-turned-newly-hired coach Blake Harrell to secure a postseason bid.

N.C. State and ECU play Saturday (5:45 p.m., ESPN) in Annapolis on Navy’s home field. The Wolfpack has a 19-13 overall record against the Pirates, including three straight victories. But ECU is 2-1 against the Pack in neutral-site games, including the 1992 Peach Bowl.

CJ Bailey gets another chance to grow as NC State football quarterback

N.C. State freshman quarterback CJ Bailey has consistently heard his name mentioned with former Wolfpack standout Philip Rivers throughout the season. Bailey will have another chance to make his mark on the program in his first postseason game. Bailey has accounted for 2,438 yards and 19 touchdowns, including 14 passing TDs and more than 2,000 passing yards. He’s 1-2 against in-state rivals this season, but is coming off a 242-yard performance with two TDs in a win at UNC.

ECU quarterback Katin Houser, wide receiver Anthony Smith vs NC State

Michigan State transfer Katin Houser and former Wolfpack receiver Anthony Smith have been two of ECU’s most productive players this season. The quarterback-wide receiver duo played a major role in turning around the team’s season.
