Ga. Tech’s bid for bowl game glory moves to Birmingham

While it isn’t a College Football Playoff game, Georgia Tech’s bowl game in Birmingham on Friday afternoon is a chance to continue their run of crazy, good momentum.

When we last left the Yellow Jackets back on November 29th, they were exhaustedly walking off the field at Georgia’s Sanford Stadium after losing to the Bulldogs in 8 overtime periods.

A well-rested Tech team will take the field Friday afternoon at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, lining up against early-season Cinderella, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Despite being off for nearly a month, Tech still has a lot of momentum after a 2-1 month of November which included a huge upset over the Miami Hurricanes and a thrilling come-from-behind win against North Carolina State. And who can forget the nailbiting finish to the game against Georgia where the Yellow Jackets laid it all on the line against their in-state rival for nearly 4 hours?

Since that game, Tech has given Head Coach Brent Key and his boss, Athletic Director J. Batt a raise and a contract extension.

TRENDING STORIES:

The Jackets are a slight favorite in the game and should be mostly healthy as many of their injured players had time to heal. QB Haynes King, who had a career game vs. UGA should be ready to go. His counterpart for Vanderbilt, Diego Pavia threw for over 2,100 yards and 17 TD’s on the season. Tech will be without King’s favorite receiver though. Sophomore WR Eric Singleton, Jr. decided to enter the Transfer Portal and will be heading to Auburn for the 2025 season and won’t be playing in the bowl game.

Both teams are well coached and are 1st and 2nd in the country at protecting the ball and not turning it over.
