FORT WORTH, Texas — R Mason Thomas still has a decision to make.
The junior defensive lineman spoke to OU’s in-house radio team following the program’s 21-20 Armed Forces Bowl loss to Navy and he shed some light on where his mind is at.
“I’m still in deep thought right now,” Thomas said. “… I’m thinking about pros and cons.”
Thomas finished with a tackle for loss against the Midshipmen on Friday. An All-SEC second-team selection by the conference’s coaches, Thomas played in all 13 games in 2024.
He recorded 23 total tackles, including 13 for loss, nine sacks and two forced fumbles this season.
On Tuesday, the Sooners’ 1Oklahoma Collective posted on Instagram and X that Thomas was returning to OU for the 2025 season. Those social media posts were quickly deleted, followed by a post by Thomas on his Instagram story which read, “Uhhh….”
Head coach Brent Venables said Thursday Thomas will announce his decision on his own terms.
“I’ll let him talk to everybody whenever he wants to talk to everybody,” Venables said. “But I know he’s going to be lining up for us in this game. Look forward to that and his leadership and how he’s grown as a leader and certainly his improvement as a player, really proud of the leadership he’s exemplified for all of our players and his commitment from beginning to end.”
