ESPN College GameDay set was live inside Ohio Stadium prior to the football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers in Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024.
ESPN may not have a television contract with the Big Ten any longer, but now that the postseason has begun, the sports media giant seems to be just fine with following Ohio State around.
The crew of Desmond Howard (we can hear the scoffs from here), Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Reese Davis, and Lee Corso were on site with the College GameDay show last week in the public flogging of Tennessee, and now, based on announcement from the network, the team will be at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Pasadena for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup between the Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks.
To be fair, not televising games for Ohio State this season hasn’t kept GameDay away from Columbus. In fact, the show was on hand in Eugene for the first installment of the Bucks and Ducks in Week 7, went to Happy Valley for OSU vs. Penn State in Week 10, came to the banks of the Olentangy for Ohio State vs. Indiana in Week 13, and came back to the ‘Shoe last week.
The only one of those games televised by ESPN/ABC was the first-round CFP matchup last week, but ABC will again have the call for the “Grandaddy of them All.” It’ll be the fifth time GameDay has originated from a game Ohio State is involved in, the most of any program in 2024.
Say whatever you want, and yeah, we like FOX and Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt, but there’s something about having Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, and Holly Rowe that screams big game, and we’ll have that again on January 1 at 5 p.m. ET.
