Giants general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll are reportedly “not seen as a package deal.” The Athletic’s Diana Russini reported Saturday that, while co-owner John Mara “plans on sticking to his word” of keeping Schoen and Daboll, the two will be evaluated independently.
“Though they arrived from Buffalo together and have contracts that align, ownership is evaluating them separately,” Russini wrote, citing “those close to the situation.”
Schoen, 45, and Daboll, 49, joined New York from Buffalo in 2022. Schoen served as the Bills’ assistant general manager (2017-21) while Daboll was the offensive coordinator (2018-21).
The Giants are an NFL-worst 2-13 entering Sunday’s Week 17 game against the Indianapolis Colts. New York has the 2025 NFL Draft’s No. 1 overall pick.
Mara in October gave the regime a vote of confidence. Daboll said Nov. 28 after the Giants’ 27-20 loss at the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving that he was not worried about his job security.
New York is on a franchise-worst 10-game skid in the wake of this past Sunday’s 34-7 loss at the Atlanta Falcons. Daboll started 9-7-1 in 2022 and reached the divisional round before going 6-11 the following season.
