If Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons gets at least half a sack in Week 17 or Week 18, he’ll accomplish something only three players — all Hall of Famers — have done before.
Parsons is at 9.5 sacks so far this season after finishing his first three seasons with 13.0, 13.5 and 14.0 sacks. With another half-sack this year, he’ll have double-digit sacks in each of his first four seasons. The only other players to have accomplished that since sacks became an official stat in 1982 were Reggie White, Derrick Thomas and Dwight Freeney.
Parsons missed four games in October but has been his elite pass-rushing self since returning, with 8.5 sacks in the Cowboys’ last seven games. Getting another half-sack to total 10 for the season shouldn’t be a problem for him.
The only player with double-digit sacks in more than four straight seasons to start his career was White, who had 10.0 or more sacks in each of his first nine NFL seasons — and also had double-digit sacks in both of his USFL seasons before his NFL career began.
