Army may not have the lengthy bowl history of some blue blood college football programs but the Black Knights have a recent string of success that makes it the envy of many.
Head coach Jeff Monken has taken Army to six bowl games since 2016 and won five of them, the latest a 27-6 victory over a diminished Louisiana Tech squad at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana, late Saturday night.
The AP No. 19 Black Knights (12-2) rolled up three long scoring series in the first half for three touchdowns, two of them by record-setting quarterback Bryson Daily and one by Hayden Reed. Army held the ball for 22:27 in the first half.
Daily added a third touchdown on the opening play of the fourth quarter, giving him 32 for the single season, an FBS record by a quarterback and tied for No. 3 all-time. Barry Sanders of Oklahoma State had 37 in 1988; Montee Ball of Wisconsin had 33 in 2011; Devin Singletary of Florida Atlantic had 32 in 2018; quarterback Keenan Reynolds of Navy had 21 in 2013 and Kapri Bibbs of Colorado State had 31 in 2013.
Daily also became the second Army quarterback to rush (1,641) and pass (1,007) for 1,000 yards. Kelvin Hopkins did so in 2018.
