A former LSU cornerback found a new home after entering the transfer portal. Cornerback J’yaire Brown will take his talents to Orlando, committing to UCF.
J’Yaire Brown spent one season at LSU after beginning his career at Ohio State. Brown signed with the Buckeyes in 2022 as a four-star recruit. According to 247Sports, he was the No. 30 ranked cornerback in the class.
Brown saw the field as a true freshman, but his playing time trailed off in 2023. With LSU in need of cornerbacks, Brown landed at LSU.
Brown only played 34 snaps with the Tigers. All of Brown’s action came early in the season, with his 12 snaps at South Carolina being a season-high. Brown made two tackles and allowed three catches in 2024.
Brown joins UCF as former Knights’ head coach Scott Frost returns in the same role. The UCF job opened after Gus Malzahn accepted the offensive coordinator role at Florida State.
LSU lost 17 players to the transfer portal this cycle. The Tigers did a good job retaining top players, but depth took a hit with names like Brown moving on.
