NEW ORLEANS –The Georgia football team touched down in New Orleans late Sunday afternoon.
It’s hardly an extended stay for this bowl trip.
The Bulldogs on two planes landed less than 76 hours before Wednesday’s 8:45 p.m. ET Sugar Bowl kickoff against Notre Dame.
The days of attending multiple bowl-sponsored events around town are fading away.
Especially with the high stakes of this Sugar Bowl serving as a College Football Playoff quarterfinal in an expanded 12-team playoff.

Georgia arrived two days earlier when it last played in this game in the 2019 season and beat Baylor.
Once again, a brass band and members of the Sugar Bowl committee were there to greet them.
“This bowl game is a little different than the past,” Georgia fifth-year senior wide receiver Arian Smith said, “because when we went to Miami last year, it was different because we were there for a week and we had separate times set to do things with the team or times to go be out with our teammates and do stuff like walk down the street and get a snack or something like that. This is different because it’s like a business trip, coach calls it.”

Georgia last year arrived in Miami the day after Christmas, four days before the game. Players had a beach outing and hit up a Brazilian steakhouse before demolishing Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
The Bulldogs were in Atlanta five days before beating Ohio State in the Peach Bowl in 2022.
That was a playoff semifinal but the teams took part in “Battle for Bowl Week Dinner,” visited hospitals and took part in indoor Go Kart cart racing.
Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said hospitality has been “modified,” at the direction of the CFP.
