Texas football will play a rare midweek game.
UT advanced in the College Football Playoff and will play Arizona State on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, in the Peach Bowl.
The Longhorns had a strong 38-24 win over the Clemson Tigers in Austin for the first-round game. Despite Clemson taking an early lead and cutting a 14-point deficit late, Texas’ defense stuffed any attempt of a Tigers win while the offense kept rolling.
Texas did have a few injuries during the game. But head coach Steve Sarkisian gave a positive prognosis for center Jake Majors and running back Quintrevion Wisner.

Arizona State won the Big 12 championship 45-19 against Iowa State and will take the field in Atlanta after three weeks of rest. The Sun Devils will not have its leading receiver Jordyn Tyson because he suffered a season-ending leg injury.
Neither team appears to be plagued by early NFL draft or transfer-portal announcements from starters, but the Longhorns have lost some lineman depth to the portal.

Texas had almost two weeks to prepare for a program it has not played in almost 20 years.

In 2007, Arizona State was ranked No. 12 but the No. 17 ranked Texas Longhorns burned the Sun Devils in a 52-34 win.
Quarterback Colt McCoy led the way for the Longhorns. He threw 174 yards and rushed 84 yards on 16 carries; running back Jamaal Charles rushed 161 yards on 27 carries and had two touchdowns.
Texas scored 21 points in the first quarter alone. Arizona State tried to answer but five turnovers kept the Sun Devils down. Texas cornerback Brandon Foster had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a tipped pass.
