Win and move on. That’s the mission for the Texas Longhorns when the face the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl College Football Playoffs Quarterfinal at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
With the expansion of the CFP to 12 teams, the football tournament starts to take on the mentality of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Win by any means necessary and move onto the next game.
That’s exactly how the Longhorns handled the first round game against the Clemson Tigers. It wasn’t always pretty, but UT did enough. With Cade Klubnik throwing the ball all over the park, the Texas defense clamped down on the Tigers running game and made Clemson one-dimensional. When the Tigers cut the Texas lead to one score, Jaydon Blue ripped off a 77-yard run to seal it.
Arizona State is a bit of an unknown. Picked to be one of the worst teams in the weakened Big 12, the Sun Devils rolled through every obstacle to beat Iowa State in the conference title game, advance to the playoffs and even secure a first round bye.
Now it’s time for big boy football. Winner is in the Final Four.
