Kickoff for the 80th TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Thursday at EverBank Stadium has been moved back to 8:05 p.m. because of the schedule change involving the Sugar Bowl game between Georgia and Notre Dame in New Orleans.
The Gator Bowl, matching 14th-ranked Mississippi and Duke (both are 9-3) was to have kicked off at 7:30 p.m. But the terrorist attack on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning resulted in the Sugar Bowl being postponed by one day. It was supposed to start on Wednesday night at 7:45 p.m. but will now begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Stadium of the Past: Old Gator Bowl was home for Jacksonville sports for six decades
Both the Sugar Bowl and Gator Bowl are on ESPN.
“Public safety is paramount,” Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said during a news conference that included Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “All parties all agree that it’s in the best interest of everybody and public safety that we postpone the game.”
The 2025 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl will match Mississippi against Duke at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
Hundley said in a later statement that work was underway to “take care of the details to make the Sugar Bowl the first-class, fun, and safe event that it has been for over 90 years.”
