Who will the Texas Longhorns face in the Cotton Bowl?

Dec 29, 2023; Arlington, Texas, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes mascot Brutus reacts to a missed field goal by place kicker Jayden Fielding during the third quarter of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic against the Missouri Tigers at AT&T Stadium. Ohio State lost 14-3.

Texas emerged victorious in a double overtime thriller against Arizona State on Wednesday, securing a 39-31 win. The Longhorns will now set their sights on Arlington, Texas, the host city of the CFP semi-final, The Cotton Bowl.

They will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes, who defeated the No. 1 ranked Oregon Ducks late Wednesday. Both Texas and Ohio State boast elite defensive and offensive units, with some analysts even labeling Ohio State as the top program in the College Football Playoff.

The two teams have a history of clashes, with Texas leading the overall record at 2-1. Their most recent encounter took place in 2008 at the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona, where Texas emerged victorious with a score of 24-21. Two years prior, Ohio State secured a win in Austin with a score of 24-7. Additionally, in 2005, Texas prevailed in Columbus with a score of 25-22 behind Vince Young.

Interestingly, the Longhorns will face the Buckeyes in their first game next year, regardless of the outcome.

It promises to be an exciting matchup. Kickoff for the Cotton Bowl is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Jerry World, also known as AT&T Stadium. Hopefully the Longhorns will have the better luck than the Dallas Cowboys in Jerry World.
