Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl game day is almost here.
Mount Union and North Central will square off for the NCAA Division III football national championship Sunday at Houston’s Shell Energy Stadium. Kickoff time on ESPN is 8:03 p.m.

Mount Union looks to end Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl title drought
Mount Union owns an NCAA-record 13 national championships, but the Purple Raiders have not won a Stagg Bowl since 2017. They lost to Mary Hardin-Baylor at the 2018 Stagg Bowl and to North Central in the 2022 title game.
North Central’s Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl run continues
The Cardinals are appearing in the Stagg Bowl for the fifth straight season. Their run does not include the canceled 2020 COVID season.
North Central beat Wisconsin-Whitewater in the 2019 Stagg Bowl and Mount Union in the 2022 championship game. The Cardinals lost to Cortland last year.

How did Mount Union reach the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl?
After receiving a first-round bye in the playoffs, the Purple Raiders beat John Carroll 42-7, Carnegie Mellon 24-19, Salisbury 38-17 and Johns Hopkins 45-37.
How did North Central reach the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl?
North Central also received a first-round bye. The Cardinals beat Whitworth 42-17, Hope 41-21, Springfield 27-3 and Susquehanna 66-0.
