Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin jokes Jaxson Dart should file waiver for more eligibility

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There’s no doubt Ole Miss football will miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Dart, a senior quarterback playing in his final game, dominated in Ole Miss’ 52-20 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. He passed for 404 yards and four touchdowns and broke two single-season Ole Miss records.

Although Dart is out of eligibility, it didn’t stop coach Lane Kiffin from joking about getting Dart an extra year in an in-game interview in a nod to Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia.

In an interview between the third and fourth quarters, Kiffin was asked on ESPN about Dart’s performance and having Dart play in the fourth quarter.

“It’s awesome,” Kiffin said. “He’s playing great. You never know, maybe he’ll file a waiver and come back another year.”

Kiffin was alluding to Pavia, Vanderbilt’s quarterback who successfully sued the NCAA to get an extra year of eligibility. Because Pavia’s lawsuit ties back to his time in junior college, and Dart has not played junior college, Dart cannot get the same treatment.

“Are you pushing for that?” Kiffin was asked.

“Maybe.” Kiffin said.
