It will be the answer to a trivia question someday: “When Lamar Jackson became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards and rush for 800 yards, which team did it come against?”
Such infamy seems to always come the way of the Cleveland Browns, who Jackson added another page in the record books on Saturday.
Jackson’s 40th touchdown pass came on a 12-yard completion to his favorite target, tight end Mark Andrews at the 11:08 mark of the second quarter. He went into the game with 39 touchdowns and four interceptions. No NFL quarterback has had 40 touchdown passes and fewer than five interceptions in a season.
Those feats – though they came early in the nationally televised game – only strengthens his claim on the most valuable player award, which would be his third.
Jackson faces stiff competition from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who cracked the 2,000-yard rushing milestone last week and is pursuit the rushing record held by former Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts great Eric Dickerson.
