Jan. 3—Three southeastern Oklahoma high school football players, including a senior from Hartshorne, will represent the Choctaw Nation during the 2025 Native American All-Star game next week in Frisco, Texas.
The game, sponsored by the Native American Athletic Foundation in partnership with the NFL and Nike, recognizes Indian Country’s top 60 high school football players “who maintain their grade point average and is seen as a leader for our next generation.”
Out of those 60 players, three are representing southeast Oklahoma and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Playing for Team “Wa-Ya” (Cherokee for wolf), Hartshorne senior Benjamin Mattioda Jr. recorded 61 solo tackles with 19 sacks on defense this season. On the offensive side of the ball, he recorded 94 receiving yards.
Hugo senior Connor Frazier was also selected for Team “Wa-Ya.” Frazier’s profile on Hudl shows he is six feet, six inches tall and weighs 350 pounds and plays center and tackle for the Buffaloes.
Coalgate senior wide receiver and cornerback Tristin Treavathan was selected for Team “Ta’tanka” (Lakota for Bison). His Hudl profile lists him as 6 foot tall and weighs 167 pounds with a 4.39 second 40-yard dash time.
A total of 20 players from Oklahoma were selected for the game.
Players will attend a camp from Jan. 4-6 where they will work with former NFL players and coaches to prepare for the all-star game, run position exercises to improve their skills, and learn leadership lessons by hearing from community leaders and participating in workshops, according to the NAAF. Scouts from colleges and professional organizations will also be in attendance at the game.
The game will be played Jan. 7 at The Star in Frisco, which is the world headquarters for the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
