Michigan football jumped out to an early lead against Alabama in the ReliaQuest bowl thanks to the defense causing turnover after turnover, but the offense couldn’t quite get enough going to push the lead out of the Crimson Tide’s reach.
A dire situation got more dire in the game when starting quarterback Davis Warren was hit near the sidelines and didn’t get up. Alex Orji came into the game and went 2-for-3, with one of the passes being an interception.
Warren was seen in street clothes with crutches after the game, and on Saturday, he revealed that he suffered a torn ACL.
The injury will preclude Warren from partaking in spring ball, but he should be available during the season, assuming his rehabilitation goes according to plan. That means that transfer Mikey Keene, early enrollee Bryce Underwood, and redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis will be the quarterbacks who will get the bulk of the snaps in spring ball and in the annual spring game.
Warren got the start to commence the 2024 season for the first three games before losing his job to Alex Orji for three games and one to Jack Tuttle. He returned against Michigan State and led the Wolverines to victory against the Spartans, Ohio State, and Alabama in the postseason.
