The top junior college running back is moving onto the Division I level.
Waymond Jordan Jr., an Escambia alum who spent the last two years at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, made it official on Sunday evening at the SCI Building in downtown Pensacola, signing with Southern California in a ceremony. He chose the Trojans over other offers from UCF, Mississippi State and North Carolina.
Jordan initially committed to UCF at the beginning of December, a couple weeks prior to Jordan’s announcement as the winner of the JUCO Weekly trophy, which is awarded to the best player in National Junior College Athletic Association football. But, ultimately, Jordan is headed to the West Coast.
Since his commitment, Jordan’s had several official visits to the other programs.
Jordan had a stellar two-year stint with Hutchinson, having an explosive sophomore season with the Blue Dragons. He ran for 1,612 yards in 12 games – becoming the 20th player in program history to do so – and scoring 20 touchdowns. He finished his career with 1,814 yards on 245 carries and 22 touchdowns.
Jordan also hauled in seven receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown over two years. He capped things off with Hutchinson with the NJCAA Division I Football Championship, upsetting top-seeded Iowa Western, 28-23, in mid-December.
It was the second national championship title in Hutchinson’s history. Jordan ran for 79 yards in the title game.
The former Gator, who was a PNJ Super Senior in 2021 after transferring to Escambia for his final year of high school football, had a stellar career in Pensacola. Over four years, Jordan recorded 4,335 yards rushing – including a 1,496-yard sophomore season – with 89 touchdowns.
He also hauled in a total 187 yards receiving on 39 receptions, while completing a 41-yard pass his sophomore year for a touchdown. While not…
