UCF football has added a familiar name to its coaching staff as Brandon Harris is taking over as the Knights’ new cornerbacks coach.
Harris is the younger brother of Tim Harris Jr., who previously worked as UCF’s offensive coordinator/receivers coach last season under coach Gus Malzahn. His father, Tim Harris Sr., is a high school coaching legend in Miami, having thrived at Booker T. Washington Senior High School.
He spent the past two seasons serving as the defensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic and previously worked at Florida International as a cornerbacks coach, defensive analyst and graduate assistant.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the UCF program and compete at the highest level in the Big 12 Conference,” Harris said in a statement. “Growing up in South Florida, I’ve watched UCF build a dynamic football culture. Now, getting a chance to be here and work with an outstanding group of student-athletes and coaches is an opportunity I’m beyond excited for.
“The energy, passion, and vision of this program under Coach [Scott] Frost align perfectly with my coaching values, and I cannot wait to get started.”
He grew up in South Florida and attended Miami, where he played cornerback from 2008-10 before being drafted by the Houston Texans in 2011. Harris spent six seasons in the NFL, finishing his playing career with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2017.
He becomes the eighth assistant coach joining Frost’s coaching staff this offseason: Steve Cooper (offensive coordinator), Alex Grinch (defensive coordinator), Shawn Clark (offensive line), McKenzie Milton (quarterbacks), Sean Beckton Sr. (receivers), Mike Dawson (defensive run game coordinator) and Kenny Martin (defensive tackles).
