UCF has added a veteran coach to its football staff, hiring former Appalachian State coach Shawn Clark as its new offensive line coach.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the move, which the Orlando Sentinel confirmed.
Clark, 49, spent nine seasons at his alma mater, first as offensive line coach and then head coach, guiding the Mountaineers to a 40-24 overall record, including a 25-15 record in the Sun Belt. But he was fired after a 5-6 campaign this past season.
“I’m thrilled to join UCF as the new offensive line coach and have the chance to work with such talented student-athletes and coaches,” Clark said in a statement. “UCF has a proud history of high-powered offenses, and I’m eager to contribute to that tradition. I want to thank Coach Frost for giving me this incredible opportunity.”
Before his time at Appalachian State, he served as the offensive line coach at Kent State (2013-15), Purdue (2009-12) and Eastern Kentucky (2003-08).
He’s helped develop several offensive linemen who’ve gone on to the NFL, including Larry Turner (EKU), Brian Winters (KSU) and Dennis Kelly (Purdue).
Clark becomes the latest addition to Frost‘s new staff, joining new offensive coordinator Steve Cooper, quarterback coach McKenzie Milton, receivers coach Sean Beckton Sr. and defensive coordinator Alex Grinch as well as defensive run coordinator and edge coach Mike Dawson.
