Georgia football addresses needs at two spots with Big Ten transfer portal additions

Georgia football picked up commitments from a pair of transfers who are brothers that it hopes can upgrade two positions on its roster.

Southern Cal wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch announced Sunday they planned to sign with the Bulldogs. Zion Branch announced his decision on Instagram and Zachariah Branch is also committing, per 247Sports.

Zachariah Branch led the Trojans in 2024 with 47 catches last season for 503 yards as a sophomore. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder was named an All-American as a returner as a true freshman in 2023 when he returned both a kickoff and punt return for touchdowns.

The Trojans used him as a slot receiver.

“I think he’s growing as a receiver, as a ball carrier, understanding offenses, understanding route running, understanding defenses, how we’re trying to attack people,” USC coach Lincoln Riley said last summer. “There’s just a maturity and a growth process that we’ve really pushed him on, and I think he’s handled it well.”

Zion Branch had 19 tackles in 10 games with 3 pass breakups and 2 tackles for loss as a redshirt sophomore. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder had 22 tackles and a forced fumble in 2023.

They will join a program with a former USC assistant, Donte Williams, on the Georgia staff as defensive backs coach.

The brothers played at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas.
