Tale of tape
If Notre Dame wants to survive the Orange Bowl and advance to the College Football Playoff final, the defense must be ready to play. While that goes without saying and hasn’t been a tall order for the Irish all season, it never has been more important than right now. Then again, that’s the case with each passing game from here on just like it was against Indiana and then Georgia.
Penn State’s offense figures to be a key a test for Notre Dame’s defense. Like the Irish, the Nittany Lions are able to put points up on the board but might not be as great at scoring points as their defense is at preventing them. In short, this is about as even a game on paper as the Irish have had throughout the season. So it very likely will come down to which unit blinks first.
