We’ve reached the final four in the College Football Playoff, and there have been some unexpected results, such as Oregon’s fall and Texas’s victory over Arizona State despite numerous crucial third-down stops.
As we approach the two-week mark until the 2024 College Football season concludes, Longhorn fans could potentially find out their potential and hopeful opponent in Atlanta on Thursday. However, this will come at the expense of securing a win against the undoubtedly elite Ohio State and Ryan Day.
CBS Sports analyst Tom Fornelli predicts that the No. 1 possible game will still be Ohio State versus Notre Dame. Nevertheless, there are two scenarios that still involve the Texas Longhorns that according to CBS Sports are ranked No. 2 and No. 3.
The No. 2 matchup pits the (5) Texas Longhorns against the (7) Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Fornelli contends that neither team possesses the offensive firepower of Ohio State. He further suggests that this matchup has a higher probability of being a defensive struggle, reminiscent of the Sugar Bowl game between Notre Dame and Georgia.
The third matchup, aptly dubbed the “boring matchup,” involves the (5) Texas Longhorns and the (6) Penn State Nittany Lions. While Fornelli acknowledges that if he were a television executive, this might be the least appealing matchup of the four, he goes on to say he gives it the edge for third because, well, it has the possibility to be one of the more entertaining games of the remaining options.
