Former Germantown CB Kody Jones commits to Memphis football as transfer from Michigan

A former Memphis area standout is coming back home.

Michigan transfer cornerback Kody Jones has committed to Memphis football, he announced Monday on Instagram. He was a four-star recruit out of Germantown and was No. 2 on The Commercial Appeal’s 2021 Dandy Dozen.

Jones played sparingly in three seasons at Michigan, totaling six tackles between 2022 and 2023. He did record any stats in 2024.

He was a star for Fairley and then for Germantown who was the No. 9 player in Tennessee when he committed to Michigan out of high school.

Jones’ arrival will be a welcome sight for a Memphis cornerback room that lost almost all of its production from last season. Starters Kobee Minor and Davion Ross exhausted their eligibility, while Tyrin Taylor and DJ Bell entered the transfer portal.

That means there are spots up for grabs, and Jones will certainly have a shot at earning one. Memphis also has a new cornerbacks coach in Jay Simpson after Charles Clark left for Purdue and Reggie Howard was promoted to defensive backs coach.

The Tigers have been extremely busy in the transfer portal, with close to 30 players already committed just a few days into 2025.
