In the spring of 2020, Michigan football appeared to shooting a shot over the SEC’s bow with two commitments in short order from the state of Tennessee. One never made it to campus and the other never really saw the field.
Taylor Groves ended up defecting to Ole Miss, before deciding to play basketball, while Kody Jones stayed with his commitment, but struggled to find playing time. Ultimately, the 2021 prospect ended up sticking around for four years before opting to seek greener pastures.
And like fellow Tennessean defensive back, Myles Pollard, who hit the transfer portal this offseason, Jones is headed back to the Volunteer State to play for Memphis.
Jones only appeared on 31 snaps in 2023, with eight of them coming on special teams. This year, he saw more time on special teams, but not much more on defense, having played 75 snaps, but 30 of which came on defense as a corner or safety.
He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining at Memphis.
