Purdue football stayed within the Big Ten to help replenish its pass rush.
The Boilermakers announced the signing of former Michigan rush end Breeon Ishmail on Monday. He will have three years remaining after spending two with the Wolverines — including a redshirt season during their run to the 2023 national championship.
The 6-3, 260-pound Cincinnati-area native came to Michigan with potential to contribute on either side of the ball. He bulked up from 214 pounds and settled in at edge rusher. He played mostly on special teams in his eight games this past season, but recorded three tackles.

Ishmail was a three-star prospect ranked 1,110 overall out of Princeton High School per the 247Sports composite for the 2023 class. That program has turned out several NFL players, most recently Arizona Cardinals first-round offensive line pick Paris Johnson (Ohio State) and former Seahawks and Chiefs running back Spencer Ware (LSU).
Purdue also recently added two-time first-team All-MAC edge rusher CJ Nunnally IV from Akron via the portal. New coach Barry Odom needed help off the edge after Kydran Jenkins moved on to the NFL and Will Heldt transferred to Clemson.
Of the nearly two dozen players Odom has added through the portal, Ishmail is the first coming directly from another Big Ten program.
