Texas QB Quinn Ewers has no regrets about his brief stay with Ohio State football team

Friday’s College Football Playoff semifinal will not be a grudge match for Quinn Ewers.

The Texas quarterback started his college career at Ohio State. He was the highest-ranked recruit the Buckeyes had ever signed. But his career in Columbus consisted of two handoffs at the end of a blowout win against Michigan State in 2021.

With C.J. Stroud established as the OSU quarterback, Ewers transferred back to his native state after the season to become a Longhorn.

Now, his current and former team will meet at the Cotton Bowl.

But Ewers supplied no bulletin board material in a Zoom call on Monday, just as coach Ryan Day had nothing but praise for Ewers a few days ago.

“I learned a lot while I was there,” Ewers said. “Coach Day and C.J. and that whole room was awesome to be around. I’m super thankful for that time I got to spend there. I don’t regret any decision I made on going (there).”

Ewers enrolled at Ohio State in what would have been his senior year at Southlake Carroll High School in suburban Dallas. A major reason was that Texas did not allow high school athletes to profit from their name, image or likeness. At Ohio State, he signed a deal reportedly worth $1.4 million with a kombucha company.

“Me and my family had a pretty big opportunity in front of us,” Ewers said. “We felt it was a good decision for me to forgo my senior year and enroll early at Ohio State and have the opportunity to have some good money in our pockets as a family.”

Ewers enrolled after the start of training camp. He was never a serious challenger for the job that Stroud won over Kyle McCord and Jack Miller.
