Ex-Pine Crest star Jordan Faison makes big impact as Notre Dame fights for national championship

DANIA BEACH — Jordan Faison was a star at Pine Crest, but his future looked to be in lacrosse. He was a standout football player for the Panthers, anchoring their Wing-T-style offense. But he was an All-American lacrosse player.

Faison earned a partial lacrosse scholarship to Notre Dame and walked on to the football team. Two years into his college career, he has a national championship — in lacrosse — under his belt, and he is trying to help the Fighting Irish football team do the same. The next hurdle in Faison and Notre Dame’s way is Penn State, who they play in the Orange Bowl — which is doubling as a College Football Playoff semifinal — at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hard Rock Stadium.

“It means the world,” Faison said. “You dream of these games as a kid. Being back here is definitely a dream come true. It’s basically a surreal moment.”

Faison, who was put on a football scholarship in 2023, has become a key cog in the Fighting Irish offense. He has 27 catches for 325 yards and a touchdown this season. Faison has started two games this year and has a 71.5 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus. His two best grades have been in the Fighting Irish’s two playoff games.

“It’s definitely been a crazy journey so far,” Faison said. “Things started falling into place that you’re praying for to fall into place. But it just shows the hard work and dedication put in when you’re young, throughout the years, and everything falling into place.”

Faison said the skills he learned on the lacrosse field also apply to football.

“They go hand-in-hand” Faison said. “The athletic piece obviously, and when you play on offense, you’re dodging your guy. You’ve also go to see defense behind the slot. In football, it’s the same thing. You’ve got your cornerback guarding you. and you’ve got…
