When Carson Beck surprised much of the college football world Thursday by entering the transfer portal, speculation quickly mounted that Miami would be the ultimate destination for the former Georgia quarterback.
As it turns out, that chatter had some legs.
Beck, who immediately became one of the most talented and coveted transfer quarterbacks available, has committed to Miami and coach Mario Cristobal, according to a report Friday from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who added that an announcement of Beck’s decision is “expected soon.”

He will have one season of eligibility remaining.
A Jacksonville native, Beck entered the 2024 college football season with lofty expectations. He was considered by many to be among a group of frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy and was widely projected as the top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class.
He largely fell short of that hype, as he completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Many of his most important numbers dipped from his 2023 season, when he completed 72.4% of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. His yards per attempt also fell, from 9.5 in 2023 to 7.8 in 2024.
Beck suffered an injury to his ulnar collateral ligament in the first half of Georgia’s SEC championship game victory against Texas that required surgery and sidelined him for the rest of the season. Without him, the Bulldogs fell to Notre Dame 23-10 in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

Beck had announced his intention to enter the NFL draft on Dec. 28 before reversing course and entering the portal two weeks later.
