When asked this week about his kicker Bert Auburn, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian would not commit to the senior handling kicks in the college football playoff semifinal Cotton Bowl.
Auburn missed two consecutive field goal attempts in the Peach Bowl against Arizona State, one of 48-yards and one 38-yards, the later would have won the game without needing overtime.
This season marked Auburn’s worst overall performance in three years with the Longhorns. After converting 80.8% of his field goals in 2022 and 82.9% in 2023, Texas senior kicker Bert Auburn struggled to 68.2% in 2024. He was patently awful in the Peach Bowl. His only make in Atlanta was a 22-yard chip shot in the first half. When the game was on the line, Auburn was totally unreliable.

A report by OrangeBlood.com’s publisher Geoff Ketchum suggests Sark has had enough. According to Ketch, “Barring a change of direction in the pre-game, I’m told that junior Will Stone will handle place-kicking duties for Texas tonight instead of Bert Auburn. Not 100% locked in, but it seems to be the plan.”
