Examining the buzz linking Deion Sanders to the Las Vegas Raiders

The buzz surrounding Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders leaving for the NFL reached new heights on Saturday following a contentious report from Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

I use the term contentious because Bonsignore’s report featured an anonymous source claiming Coach Prime has a “very strong interest” in the Las Vegas Raiders’ vacant head coaching job. As I wrote on X, using an anonymous source makes me question the report’s validity. Sanders rides with a tight inner circle and anybody who insists on being anonymous likely isn’t among Coach Prime’s closest allies.

Coach Prime’s longtime pastor, E. Dewey Smith, even quote-tweeted the report and wrote, “LOL!! Man, y’all relentless!!”

Earlier this week, Coach Prime told “Good Morning America” that he would only consider leaving Boulder for the NFL if he could coach his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. The Raiders currently own the sixth pick in the 2025 NFL draft, making their chances of landing the quarterback Shedeur unlikely. Most mock drafts have Shedeur going top three to either the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns or Tennessee Titans, so unless the Raiders trade up at a massive cost, Shedeur isn’t headed to Vegas.

Other knowledgeable reporters who’ve written on the situation include Tyler King (Denver Gazette), Troy Renck (Denver Post) and Mat Smith (independent).

Take a photographic look at Coach Prime’s second season leading the Buffs:
