Penn State’s roster is bound to have some new looks in 2025 after a handful of notable players pursue a dream of playing in the NFL, but one key member of the Penn State defense is ready to run it back in Happy Valley next fall.
Zane Durant took to his social media accounts on Saturday to announce his decision to return to Penn State for the 2025 season.
“Thank you Nittany Nation, it’s been a tremendous rise these past 3 years,” Durant said in his brief statement. “I’m thankful for all my teammates. I’m thankful for coach [defensive line coach Deon Barnes] Barnes and [defensive coordinator Tom Allen]. I want to thank my pop and mom for helping me through the process.”
At first, this seems like a typical statement announcing a departure for the NFL draft. But Durant continued.
“I thank the Lord for guiding me,” Durant said. “With that being said, Penn State, I’m coming back.”
Durant recorded 42 tackles this season, the most by a defensive tackle this season for the Penn State defense. His 11.0 tackles for loss were third on the team behind only edge rushers Abdul Carter and Dani Dennis-Sutton. Carter has already declared for the NFL draft and a decision from Dennis-Sutton is looming.
With Durant set to return, Penn State will bring back one of its key cogs on the defensive line next fall. Who lines up beside him will be among the top questions for the defense entering spring football as Dvon J-Thomas and Coziah Izzard each moving on as seniors.
