Neither Ohio team made the NFL playoffs, but one of them seems a thousand miles closer to getting there next year, and the main reason is Joe Burrow.
After taking part in a special event at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Friday, Bengals icon Anthony Munoz answered a question about what a quarterback of Burrow’s ilk means to an organization.
Burrow transferred out of Ohio State in 2018 and led LSU to the 2019 national championship. He joined the Bengals as a No. 1 overall draft pick in 2020 and led them to AFC championship games in his second and third seasons. The 2024 Bengals missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record.

“I usually don’t watch college players as much as I watched Joe when he was in college,” Munoz, said. “I watched Joe every single game at LSU his last year.
“I have a couple of grandkids who are very knowledgeable of the game, and they were big fans of (Ohio State defensive lineman) Chase Young. They wanted the Bengals to get him.
“I said, ‘No, we’ve got to get Joe, we’ve got to get Joe, because that’s what we need.’ I think they were in the Joe camp after the first year.”

Munoz was the only career Bengals player in the Hall of Fame before defensive back Ken Riley made it in 2023. Munoz played left tackle in Cincinnati from 1980-92. An Ohio team has made the Super Bowl just three times, the Bengals with Munoz in 1981 and 1988, and with Burrow in 2021.
On Friday, Munoz took part in ribbon cutting for the Hall of Fame’s new Character exhibit. He views Burrow as a high-character quarterback.
