NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed named offensive coordinator at Atlanta’s Chamblee High School

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis joined the Chamblee High School staff in 2024 as the program’s director of college recruiting.

Now, one of Lewis’ old Raven teammates has joined him in Atlanta.

Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed has joined the Chamblee coaching staff as the program’s new offensive coordinator. The school confirmed the news on X.

The new position also gives Reed a chance to coach his son. Edward Reed III is a junior entering his senior season and plays defensive back and receiver for the Bulldogs.

Reed made a career terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. He spent 12 years in the NFL, 11 with Baltimore, recording 646 tackles, 64 interceptions and seven defensive touchdowns. In 2013, he capped off his career with the Ravens as part of their Super Bowl-winning team.

Reed got into coaching a few seasons after his Hall of Fame career ended. He joined Rex Ryan’s staff in Buffalo in 2016 but did not return to the team after Ryan was fired.

In 2020, he returned to his alma mater, Miami, in an administrative role as the chief of staff for then-head coach Manny Diaz. Reed stayed in that role until 2022, when he was named the head coach at HBCU Bethune Cookman.

That position never came to fruition, though, as both sides could not come to an agreement on his contract. That split became ugly as Reed took to X bashing the program and its facilities.

Reed comes to a Chamblee program in desperate need of a jolt. The Bulldogs went 2-9 last year and were outscored 153-320. They averaged 13.9 points on offense, never reached the 30-point mark and have not posted a winning record since 2022.
