What’s next for 5-star OT Ty Haywood following Alabama decommitment?

Alabama boasts one of the nation’s top recruiting classes yet again. However, the Crimson Tide will now be without one of those key five-star pieces that made it a top-three group.

Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood decommitted from the Crimson Tide Monday afternoon. Haywood had been committed to Alabama since last July.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder ranks as the No. 20 player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. The site ranks him as the No. 4 offensive tackle and No. 7 player out of Texas.

Rumors surrounding Haywood’s pledge to Alabama have been circulating for months now.

Most of the nation’s top 2025 recruits signed to their respective schools during the Early Signing Period. Haywood was not among that group.

Michigan quickly emerged as the favorite to land Haywood and now looks even more like the favorite, as he’s expected to be in Ann Arbor this weekend for an official visit.

The Wolverines entered the offseason with a 19-13 win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl. It was the second time in 2024 that Michigan beat Alabama in a bowl matchup.

Michigan currently boasts the No. 9 class in the cycle, headlined by No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood. Its class consists of 22 signees. Five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola is the Wolverines’ other five-star signee in the class.
