As Mack Leftwich introduces his scheme and concepts over the next several months, the new Texas Tech football offensive coordinator will have help explaining it from someone who not only knows the system, but thrived in it.
Tech on Monday announced the hire of Lindsey Scott Jr. as assistant quarterbacks coach. With Leftwich as his offensive coordinator the past three years, Scott was a record-setting quarterback for Incarnate Word in 2022 and an offensive analyst for Texas State in 2023 and 2024.
“We’re excited to welcome Coach Scott to our staff,” coach Joey McGuire said in Tech’s announcement. “He played the quarterback position at a high level and has a strong understanding of our new offense under Coach Leftwich. He will be a great addition to our offensive staff room.”
Scott fills the staff position vacated by Kirk Bryant, who left to become offensive coordinator at Midwestern State.

Tech hired Leftwich on Dec. 6. Each of the past two seasons, Texas State averaged 37 points and ranked 11th and eighth in the FBS in scoring offense. Scott was working behind the scenes for those teams. He was the star of the show in 2022 at Incarnate Word, when the Cardinals went 12-2, led the FCS in scoring at 51.5 points per game and reached the national semifinals.
Scott won the Walter Payton Award as the offensive player of the year in the FCS, setting single-season school records for yards passing (4,686), passing touchdowns (60), completion percentage (70.9), total offense yards (5,353) and touchdowns responsible for (71).
