Arizona State football running back Cam Skattebo earns second All-American accolade

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has earned another All-American honor — this one a first-team selection by ESPN.

The charismatic senior, who propelled the Sun Devils to an 11-3 record, a Big 12 championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff earlier earned first-team honors from the Associated Press.

Skattebo, a 5-foot-11, 215-pounder, totaled 1,711 rushing yards, which broke the school’s single-season mark of 1,642 by Eno Benjamin back in 2018. His 21 rushing touchdowns were also a single-season best. Skattebo was also integral in the passing game with 45 receptions for 605 yards and another three scores.

In the Big 12 championship game win over Iowa State and playoff loss to Texas, he rolled up 450 rushing plus receiving yards and accounted for six touchdowns, one a 42-yard pass in the Sun Devils’ double-overtime loss to Texas. He earned Offensive MVP honors in the Peach Bowl, marking the first time in 26 years that honor went to a player on the losing team.

Skattebo finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting, just missing a trip to New York City for the festivities by one place.

Among the other ESPN selections was former Sun Devil, senior punter Eddie Czaplicki, who played for ASU in 2021 and 2022 before spending the last two seasons at USC.

University of Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan was a second-team selection. He was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award going annually to the nation’s top receiver. He caught 84 passes for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns, despite the Wildcats subpar season.
