Penn State’s offensive line will get one more year out of JB Nelson as an option in the trenches. Suggesting on social media he has something to prove, Nelson announced he will be back with the Nittany Lions in 2025. Nelson announced his decision on social media.
Nelson’s return will mean the former JUCO transfer from Lackawanna College will be entering his sixth season of college football. Nelson was eligible for an extra year of eligibility as a result of the NCAA granting all student-athletes an extra year of eligibility from the 2020 season impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nelson came to Penn State from Lackawanna Community College in 2022. He appeared in four games during the 2022 season and saw more activity in 2023 with 11 appearances and eight starts. Nelson earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors from coaches and media. Nelson’s playing time was reduced in 2024 due to nagging injuries slowing him down, which may be part of the motivation to return for another season.
Nelson will be expected to be a part of the offensive line formula next season. The line also returns Nick Dawkins, who announced his decision recently. Penn State is also adding Texas A&M lineman TJ Shanahan from the transfer portal to bolster the depth of the offensive line.
