Penn State football wide receiver Omari Evans enters transfer portal

Wide receiver has been a contentious position for Penn State football, and one of the top players at that position has decided to find a new home.

Junior wide receiver Omari Evans announced that he was entering the transfer portal. The news was broken by On3. A 6-foot, 188-pounder from Killeen, Tx., Evans caught 21 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns for the Nittany Lions in 2024-25.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Evans’ last impression to Penn State fans will be his performance against Boise State, where he used his speed to record two receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, he, along with the rest of the receiving group, will be remembered for recording zero catches in the CFP semifinal against Notre Dame.

With Penn State bringing in Kyron Hudson and Devonte Ross via the transfer portal, along with several more via the 2025 recruiting class, there is a strong chance the receiver room will look very different next season.

Combine that with the criticism the wideouts have received for their lack of production, it was likely that one of the rotation guys would leave, and that turned out to be Evans.

The offseason is still fairly young for Penn State, so it’s possible this isn’t the last person in or out of State College. But with Drew Allar, among others, choosing to return for the 2025 season, finding wide receivers for their quarterback to throw to became even more paramount.
