Browns’ Bubba Ventrone named head coach, Jacques Cesaire to be coordinator for Senior Bowl

The Browns will get a hands-on look at some of the best prospects participating in the Senior Bowl at the end of the month. Two assistant coaches will be among those coaching in the game.

Assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone will be the head coach of the American team. Defensive line coach Jacques Cesaire, meanwhile, will serve as a defensive coordinator for the National team, which will have New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka as its head coach.

The Browns will pick No. 2 overall in April’s draft. The Giants have the No. 3 pick.

The 76th edition of the game will be played on Feb. 1 at the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. All three days of practice will be televised on both NFL Network and ESPN and the game itself will be aired live on the NFL Network at 2:30 p.m.

The coaches on both staffs were chosen by a group of league office executives and General Managers Advisory Committee representatives based upon nominees from all of the non-playoff and Wild Card-participant teams.

The 42-year-old Ventrone is coming off his second season on the Browns’ staff. The former special teams ace for the Browns, among others, previously coached with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

The 44-year-old Cesaire is coming off his first season as the defensive line coach for Cleveland. The former NFL defensive lineman had previously coached with the San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans.

Ventrone’s coordinators for the week will be Giants running backs coach Joel Thomas (offensive coordinator), Colts senior assistant defensive line coach…
