Lorenzo Styles Jr. played two seasons as a wide receiver for Notre Dame.
He has been a defensive back for Ohio State the last two years, joining his brother Sonny as a Buckeye.
Now the Pickerington Central product will play his former team for the national championship.
“Clearly, I picked two good schools,” Styles said with a smile Wednesday. “I’m excited to play (against) some of those guys. I have a lot of respect for that program. I have a lot of respect for coach (Marcus) Freeman.”

Styles said his desire to switch positions drove his decision to transfer to Ohio State and play for cornerbacks coach Tim Walton. Notre Dame tried to retain him, but Styles wanted what he called a better fit at Ohio State.
“I thought the longevity of my career would be at cornerback and I had a lot of trust in coach Walt and a lot of trust in what Ohio State does at DB,” he said. “I thought this would be the best fit for me.”
Sonny being a Buckeye also was a factor. Their father, Lorenzo Sr., was Walton’s OSU teammate in the early 1990s.

Lorenzo Jr. had his moments as a Notre Dame receiver, and the Irish could use him now given their struggles in the passing game. He was their second-leading receiver in 2021 and 2022. Styles broke a tackle for a 54-yard gain on the first snap of OSU’s 21-10 victory in the 2022 opener.
That was Jim Knowles’ first play as the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator.
