Texas QB Quinn Ewers reportedly turned down $8 million NIL deal to enter 2025 NFL Draft

Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers potentially turned down a massive NIL deal to play one more college football season, according to a report from Horns247.

Ewers, who announced he was entering the 2025 NFL draft on Wednesday, will forgo his final season of eligibility to turn pro and, in turn, an offer of $8 million of NIL funds to enter the portal. The junior signal caller led the Longhorns to the SEC championship game and the College Football Playoff semifinal in 2025. Ohio State knocked out Texas in the semifinal.

If he had accepted the reported NIL offer from the unknown program, Ewers would have made more than the $6 million he made during the last three seasons in Austin. Instead, Ewers bet on himself to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in a draft class, which is considered weaker at the position.

Ewers, who is listed at 6 feet 2 inches tall, started his collegiate career at Ohio State in 2021 before transferring to the Longhorns. According to ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Ewers is the fifth-ranked QB prospect in the 2025 class, behind Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward, Ole Miss’ Jaxon Dart and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe.

Ewers’ decision to eschew the reported NIL deal could be a wise or poor business decision, depending on where he is selected. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft is projected to earn over $42 million over four years, while the No. 32 pick is projected to earn over $13 million, according to Spotrac.

A second-round pick is projected to between $6.8 and $10.8 million on a four-year deal, while a third-round pick could earn between $4.3 and $6.4 million over the same four-year agreement.

Ewers completed 293 of 445 passes (65.8%) for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2024. He has completed…
