These 28 High Desert players received All-CIF-SS football honors. Check out the list here

Three football players from the High Desert were recently announced as CIF-Southern Section Players of the Year.

After leading Silverado to the CIF-SS Division 10 championship on Nov. 30, quarterback Jace Weiss and linebacker Taron Thompson received the offensive and defensive Player of the Year honors. Keron Jones also received the Coach of the Year award.

Serrano linebacker Eddie Serpa shared the CIF-SS Division 8 Defensive Player of the Year award with St. Pius X-St. Matthias’ Malik Brooks. Serrano lost to St. Pius X in the Division 8 title game.

On the season, Serpa recorded 87 tackles, including 50 solo, with two sacks and caused two fumbles. During the playoff run, Serpa recorded 22 tackles, 12 solo, three for a loss and a fumble recovery.

Silverado beat St. Anthony 30-14 in the championship game as Weiss threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns.

In the playoffs is where Weiss really found a groove. In four Division 10 playoff games, Weiss threw for 1,113 yards and 18 touchdowns, as the Hawks averaged 43.8 points a game. On the season, Weiss threw for 3,226 yards and 39 touchdowns. He also ran for 556 yards and another 18 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Hawks allowed 22 points a game during the championship run, with Thompson helping anchor the middle of the field.
