South Shore football star announces Division 1 college commitment

Naheem Ridore is finished dominating the South Shore’s high school football trenches.

He’s headed to the next level.

On Thursday, Ridore announced on X that he will continue his football career at the Division 1 FCS level at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound lineman finished his All-Scholastic senior season as the Wildcats’ all-time sack leader. This past season, Ridore had 65 tackles, 6 QB sacks, a fumble recovery and two blocked field goals defensively. Offensively, behind Ridore on the line, the Weymouth run game produced more than 2,800 rushing yards in 11 games.

Ridore was forced to play running back later in the season due to the team’s multiple backfield injuries and he punctuated his career by rushing in a pair of touchdowns vs. Walpole on Thanksgiving. Weymouth finished with a 6-5 record.

“He’s one of the most impressive young men I’ve ever been around,” Weymouth football coach Mike Donovan said of Ridore following a win over Braintree on Sept. 6. “Tremendous worker. Does everything the way a coach would want you to do it. He’s so fun to coach. He’s a tough Weymouth kid.”

Ridore also stands out on the wrestling mat in the winter, and on the rugby field in the spring.

He entered this wrestling season with a 66-27 career record. In rugby, he plays the 8-man position on the Wildcats’ three-time defending champion team. Ridore enters his senior campaign headlining Weymouth’s pursuit of a fourth straight Div. 2 state title.

“Naheem is the anchor of the team, he’s a quiet leader that plays relentless defense and as an offensive weapon is a coach’s dream player,” Weymouth rugby coach Ryan Casey said of Ridore for his All-Scholastic bio.
