Yes, they’re DePaul teammates forever, but come Monday night, four Spartans standouts will be on opposite sides of the College Football Playoff national championship game in Atlanta.
In what has to be at least unusual if not unprecedented, two DePaul seniors (De’zie Jones and DeShawn Stewart) are Ohio State signees, while two more DePaul seniors (Nolan James Jr. and Elijah Burress) are Notre Dame signees.
All four will be in attendance Monday when the Fighting Irish take on the Buckeyes for the national title at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Ohio State pair will arrive Saturday and will be on the sidelines for the contest. The Notre Dame duo flies out Monday and will be in the stands.

Even though they haven’t officially put on their college jerseys, the trash talk between the four Spartans has already started.
“I think we [Ohio State] will win because we have weapons at every position on the field,” Jones said in a text message exchange. “We will play faster and stronger and smarter and just dominate them.”
“Notre Dame will win because our coaches are elite at what they do and I trust them to develop a winning game plan,” Burress said.
It goes on.
