Texas Longhorns defensive back Gavin Holmes (9) brings down Ohio State Buckeyes tight end Gee Scott Jr. (88) in the fourth quarter as the Texas Longhorns play the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl College Football Playoff semi-final at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, Jan. 10, 2025.
In five years of college football, Holmes has recorded 65 total tackles, two interceptions and 14 pass breakups. While he was a backup in his final year with Texas, the defensive back contributed to one of the best secondaries in the country.
During Texas’ final game of the year against Ohio State, Holmes played 11 snaps and recorded a respectable 65.7 coverage grade according to Pro Football Focus. The Longhorns held the Buckeyes talented wide receiver trio of Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate to 141 yards and no touchdowns.
