Illinois football added size and physicality to the interior of its offensive line this week, landing a commitment from high school lineman Landen Von Seggern of Nebraska, he announced on social media.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder is a three-star recruit from Omaha Millard South, ranked No. 59 nationally among interior linemen and No. 4 in Nebraska, according to 247Sports.com. He chose Illinois over Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State and others.
Analysis: 4 questions for Illinois football after its turnaround 2024 season
Von Seggern “plays with a nasty streak. He’s athletic, moves well and blocks in space, but he also arrives with mean intentions, looking to drive defenders into the ground and finish blocks,” wrote Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer. “He also displays good technique and good footwork in pass protection.”
Van Seggern is the fourth high school prospect to commit to the Illini’s Class of 2026, joining in-state receiver Davon Grant of DeKalb, and two Florida players in three-star quarterback Michael Clayton of Orlando and linebacker Kingston Shaw of Apopka.
Illinois just completed a turnaround 10-win season capped by a victory over South Carolina in the Citrus Bowl. Since, multiple Illini have announced their intention to return to Champaign, with nearly every starter with eligibility expected to return in 2025.
