Comedian Shane Gillis was barely a year old when Notre Dame football last won a national championship.
The 37-year-old Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, native prayed for a Fighting Irish win on Monday against Ohio State in a recent social media video.
“Hey, God. It’s me Shane. I know I haven’t been here in a while, but I have a pretty big prayer for you,” he said in an Under Armour advertisement. “Notre Dame is in the national championship on Monday. I know you know, because you’ve been with us the whole time – couple weeks ago, that field goal. I know you have a lot going on, so that was pretty chill you took time to help us with that.

“… Come on, God. I know you can help us. Trucking dudes. Pick-sixes everywhere. Maybe a couple Fumblerooskis. Just please let Notre Dame win a national championship.”
Gillis, a Notre Dame fan, recently appeared on ESPN’s “College GameDay” for the Fighting Irish’s CFP game against Indiana, decked out in program gear. He also angered Nick Saban, who was upset by Gillis’ joke about the SEC and Alabama paying players before name, image and likeness was legal.
Gillis played college football at Army in 2006 but quit shortly into his freshman season and transferred to Elon, where he also played one season before graduating from West Chester University. Gillis recently hosted an episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and released “Tires,” a Netflix series.
