Riley Leonard and the Fighting Irish got off to a raucous start against Ohio State in the national championship game Monday, with the QB accounting for 65 yards (34 on the ground and 31 through the air) in an 18-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that took 9:45 off the clock.
After Leonard got into the end zone, he had a message for the ESPN broadcast, via his wristband, pointing to it after crossing the goal line.
The wristband reads “Matthew 23:12, a gospel verse that states: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
On the back of his left hand, which he used to point, Leonard seemingly had the words “Proverbs 27:17” written on it. The verse, which reads “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another,” is a saying frequently used in sports.

Indeed, it was a clear statement and message by the Irish, though the offense sputtered for the remainder of the first half.
